Places to eat in Columbus that I like:

Betty's Kitchen Short North.
A little shi-shi (in a nice way), and not that expensive, with a bar, decent music, always busy, and the people are nice. They have vegetables, and they know how to treat them.
Things I like: surly-girl salad, artichoke dip, mashed potatoes, pecan-crusted tuna, Australian shiraz.

Restaurant Japan Far away at Henderson/Kenny.
It's a big sushi place (though they have Korean food, too), in the same strip mall with Seafood Japan and New Japan.
Things I like: sweet potato roll, sea urchin, bi bim bhap in the hot stone bowl.

Japanese Oriental Restaurant North campus.
It's open late, it has an inviting neon sign and stone steps, and it's on my way home. Other notable features: supernaturally bright lighting and truly horrifying Asian pop music. Yes it has fine sushi, but I think they're Korean, and they have mostly Korean food. Eating there made my family happy.
Things I like: bi bim bhap in a hot stone bowl, and all the little side dishes. One time we even got the little dried fishes.

Wong Gei Across from the Wexner
Little Chinese place with common seating, comfortably dingy, and you order from the counter from a very nice woman. Clean up after yourself when you leave. She is very busy.
Things I like: Mr. Brown's iced coffee in a can, spicy string beans and bean curd, Chinese sausage and scrambled eggs.

North Market
Well-known indoor market just over the bridge from the Short North into downtown. It has lots of stalls selling various genres of food, prepared or no. There is a second floor overlooking the first where you can sit and eat, and a farmer's market on weekend mornings from spring to fall. Really good things to get there include fish from Bob the fish guy, salsa from the salsa lady, cheese from the cheese guy, and wine from the wine guy. Also I like looking at the weird meat items from the meat guy and visiting the (somewhat intimidating) German cookie and cake lady.
Things I like: ginger people at Benevolence bakery, pad thai from the Chinese place, rose-water lassi and vegetarian combo from the Indian place, anything from Firdous.

Seafood Japan Far away at Henderson/Kenny
Order sushi from the take-out counter, go shop at New Japan, and come back. It's very, very good.

Jack & Benny's North Campus
It's a diner with crappy coffee, but they serve breakfast til 3PM, it's family owned/run, and they are very nice.
Things I like: bacon, egg and cheese sandwich with a side of hash browns.

Hounddog's Pizza for the People North Campus
They're open 24 hours, they have style, music, and spicy sauce. There aren't too many places in Columbus with spicy anything.
Things I like: 14" thin-crust pizza with spicy sauce, bacon, broccoli, and onions

Places linguists go in packs:

That is, if you have lost a pack of hungry linguists, and you want to find them, try one of these places. If, on the other hand, you are trying to avoid linguists and you are hungry, go elsewhere.

Indian Kitchen

Blue Nile  Ethiopian food

Bars:

If you would like to see a linguist in his or her cups, you might try one of these two places. I have sometimes found them there.

Blue Danube

Larry's (they have a real website)
