In the fall of 1999 I had the honor of presenting the Ohio Environmental Council's first annual Sara J. Mielke Memorial Award, recognizing "outstanding achievement as a student, an environmental activist and steward of the Earth."

Sara (my wife) died in a car accident April 21, 1999 as she returned from an Earth Day event at Bowling Green State University
