CLCC Results: General Overview
Contained in this section are selected results from the CLCC Project study. Eventually results of three types will appear: phonetic (those which deal with the pronunciation of vowels and consonants), syntactic (those which deal with the order in which words appear in a sentence), and lexical (those which deal with word choices). The primary type of data featured on this site is phonetic, specificially vowel variation data.
Results are further subdivided into two major categories: 20th Century Language Change and Variation, and 19th Century Language Change and Variation. Since the primary emphasis of the study is on 20th Century speech patterns, and since relatively little data on 19th Century Columbus speech patterns are available, the bulk of the findings deal with 20th Century speech. In addition, the bulk of the available data deals with European American speech patterns, although some African American vowel and consonant pronunciation data are also available in the 20th Century Language Change and Variation section.
Results can be accessed by clicking on any of the tabs above.
