Historical Linguistics, encompassing both the study of the ways languages change over time and the development and application of methods to analyze and explain observed and reconstructed changes, is well-represented at The Ohio State University. Several key faculty in the Linguistics Department and in various language departments form the nucleus for a vibrant graduate program, and other faculty throughout the university contribute related expertise. These faculty are all engaged in on-going research projects, and take an active role in the training and mentoring of graduate students through the completion of their Ph.D. degree.
Focus on various language families and unique combinations of specializations yield an inherently intra- and interdisciplinary group that enjoys lively discussions and benefits from the wide range in perspectives.
