H384 Language and Computers U 5
Prereq: Enrollment in an honors program, or permission of instructor

Course bulletin description: Introduction to the field of human language processing and its applications, including speech recognition and synthesis, and grammatical modeling.

The widening use of computers has had a profound influence on the way
ordinary people work with information, but our interactions with computers are not yet as natural as we would like. The goal of Human Language Technology (HLT) is to bridge this gap. We'll go behind the scenes of
internet search engines, automatic translators, e-mail filters, spell-checkers, and much more, to find out how people are using insights about language to make technology more convenient.
