820 Seminar in Syntax G 5

Advanced topics in syntactic analysis. The purpose of this seminar is to give a group of students the opportunity to do independent work on related problems. A general topic is announced by the professor in charge; problem statements, progress reports, and more conclusive presentations are given by all the participants, including the professor. The final paper is a write-up of the student's work during the quarter. Drafts of papers or reviews of the literature may also be requested. Among the topics discussed in the past are current issues in the theory of transformational grammar, relational grammar, GPSG, comparison of current theories of grammatical relations, Government-Binding syntax, the interface program, syntactic constructions and their integration into syntactic theory, categorial grammar, anaphora, fundamental concepts in syntax, and Creole syntax.
